Sequence-Driven Gather

1. Switch to Gather mode and drop your sequence XML, FCPXML, OTIO, or AAF onto the window. EDL imports show up in the sidebar but usually don’t carry source paths, so they can’t drive a Gather run on their own.

2. SequenceSuite looks for each clip on disk. The table shows the file size and status (Ready, Missing, R3D Siblings, or Duplicate). Totals update in the status bar.

3. Switch the table to This Sequence and tick what you want. Planned Files then shows your Gather Plan - the files you have asked SequenceSuite to gather, including any missing rows you still need to chase down.

4. Set the destination - either in Settings → Gather → Destination, or let the Gather run prompt you for one.

5. Click Run Gather. The confirmation screen shows the file count, total size, source sequence count, missing and duplicate counts, destination, and the options for this run.

6. Confirm to start copying.

Working across several sequences

For multi-sequence files, tick whole sequences in the sidebar. A part-ticked sequence shows a distinct partial state, so you can see at a glance where only some of the clips are in the plan.

Run Gather (N files) always copies your Gather Plan, whichever sequence you happen to be looking at. When you want just the timeline in front of you instead, use Gather This Sequence (N) - it copies that sequence’s readable media and leaves your plan untouched.

Working the plan from the table

Right-click any row in the plan for the quick actions:

• Exclude from Gather Plan - unticks the selected rows and marks them to skip. Works on a multi-row selection (⇧-click, ⌘-click, or ⌘A), so you can drop a whole block of files in one go. Include in Gather Plan puts them back.
• Re-check on Disk - looks for the file again right now. Handy after reconnecting a drive: a found file flips from Missing to Ready without re-importing anything.
• Locate… - relink a Missing file. See Locating Missing Files.
• Reveal in Finder - opens the enclosing folder.
• Copy Source Path / File Name / Row - copy details for an email or a tech sheet. Select several rows first and the menu copies them all, plus a Copy Total Size for the combined bytes.
• Show clips using this file - jumps to Sheet filtered to every clip cut from that file, so you can see exactly where it’s used before deciding whether to copy it.

Pre-flight

Before copying starts, SequenceSuite verifies:

• Free disk space - refuses to start if the destination volume is smaller than the planned bytes.
• Source readability - every selected file is checked for read access.
• Source size - files whose size couldn’t be measured are flagged.
• Destination writeability - a tiny probe file is created and removed.

A pre-flight failure aborts the run with a list of what’s wrong.

Missing clips

Missing clips are listed in the sidebar’s Missing section. You can:

• Leave them in the plan - they stay visible as missing, but they are skipped until SequenceSuite can read the file.
• Locate them - see Locating Missing Files.

Tip

If your media is on a disconnected drive, you can build the plan now and reconnect the drive before copying. SequenceSuite re-scans when a volume comes back online.

Copy behaviour

Gather shows transfer progress with a 5-second speed average, including while files are being verified, and checks each file’s size after writing. The transfer buffer is configurable in Settings (1–256 MB).

With Checksum verify on - switch it on from the confirmation screen - each file over 1 MB is read back from the physical media and compared against the source, so a corrupted copy is caught immediately. Verification only ever confirms what it can actually prove: if a file can’t be checked, the run reports it as an issue and the log never claims it was verified.

You can pause and resume mid-run, and stop two ways:

• Stop Now - stop immediately; the part-copied file is deleted.
• Stop After Current - finish the current file, verify it, then stop.

A run that copied everything cleanly finishes green. One that hit anything worth your attention - a source that vanished, a file it couldn’t verify - finishes with issues and tells you which files.

A timestamped log file is written to the destination listing every action. That’s one clean text report per copy; if you want a spreadsheet-friendly version too, switch it on in Settings.

Resumable copies

Every verified file is recorded in a resume log at the destination. If a run is interrupted (crash, quit, cancel), the record survives. The next run against the same destination skips any file that was already copied successfully and re-copies everything else. When a run completes with zero failures, the resume log is cleared.

Exporting the plan

The Gather toolbar can export the current plan as a file (Gather Plan JSON from the export menu) - useful for documentation or sharing the plan with a co-worker or facility.

Avid AAF

AAF files use the same Gather Plan, but the source list comes from Avid media references rather than XML clip paths. See Avid AAF Gather for render-media, Avid MediaFiles, and relink notes.
