Avid AAF Gather

Drop your Avid .aaf into SequenceSuite and it will read every media reference in the sequence, build your gather list, and collect everything your project needs - whether you’re archiving, handing off to another facility, or moving to a new drive.

1. Switch to Gather mode and drop your .aaf onto SequenceSuite.

2. SequenceSuite reads the AAF and builds your media list, showing which files are ready and which need locating.

3. If any media shows as Missing, click Locate Media… and point SequenceSuite to the drive or folder containing your Avid media.

4. Review your Gather Plan - your AAF clips sit alongside any other sources you’ve added.

5. Turn on Include Avid render media files if you want rendered effects and precomputes to travel with the copy.

6. Choose a destination and run Gather.

What gets copied

SequenceSuite copies the Avid MXF media your sequence references - the files inside your Avid MediaFiles folders - exactly what Avid needs to relink the sequence when opened on another system.

If clips were edited as AMA-linked camera originals (MP4s, WAVs, R3Ds, etc.) and also transcoded into Avid media, SequenceSuite gathers the Avid-managed media to keep the copy clean and ready for Avid to relink. If a clip exists only as a camera original with no Avid-managed version, SequenceSuite includes that original instead.

Render media

The Include Avid render media files option brings rendered effects, audio renders, and precomputes along with your gather.

Leave it off for a lean, fast copy of just the sequence media. Turn it on when you want the destination system to open the project as close to its original state as possible - effects already rendered, audio already bounced.

Tip

Avid can recreate render media, but including it saves render time when the project lands at another facility or editor.

Relinking on a new system

Avid looks for managed media inside an Avid MediaFiles/MXF/ folder at the root of a drive. SequenceSuite preserves the original folder structure by default, so an existing Avid media drive is ready to relink straight away.

When you enable Rebuild Avid MediaFiles, SequenceSuite organises the copied MXF files into a clean layout:

Avid MediaFiles/MXF/<sequence name>/

This is useful for a fresh, tidy handoff or archive rather than mirroring the original drive layout.

Missing media

If SequenceSuite can’t find your media - because the sequence came from another machine, a different drive, or a network storage system - missing clips are flagged clearly in your media list. The rest of the gather plan stays intact and ready to run.

Click Locate Media… and point SequenceSuite to:

• the drive containing Avid MediaFiles;
• the Avid MediaFiles folder itself;
• or any MXF subfolder where the media lives.

SequenceSuite resolves as many matches as it can from that location in one pass, so you rarely need to locate the same drive twice.

Inspector and gather report

Each clip in an AAF gather shows full detail in the Gather inspector - source composition, clip type, and where the file was found.

After a gather, SequenceSuite writes a report to a _SequenceSuite folder at the destination. This is handy for handoff paperwork or double-checking everything that was collected.

Note

AAF is supported for media gathering. For cut sheets, conforming reports, and duplicate detection, use an XML, FCPXML, or EDL export from Avid alongside the AAF.
